The name was as unconventional as the shape. Rather than using Lamborghini’s familiar bullfighting vocabulary, “Countach” came from a Piedmontese exclamation of amazement heard during late-night work at Bertone. Gandini later recalled proposing it almost as a joke and asking development driver Bob Wallace how it sounded to an English-speaking ear. An improvised workshop expression consequently became one of the marque’s most enduring model names.
