Shutter Speed

@itzmaherJuly 9, 2026

Q: What is Shutter Speed and what does it do?

A: Shutter Speed is the amount of time a cameras shutter is open to let light in. It's usually measured in fractions of a second (1/100 1/500 1/1000).

Forza uses a simple universal 1-100 scale instead of the traditional photography scale.

Setting it to 0 - 0 Means that your subject (even if moving very fast) will look stationary or ALMOST stationary. This is great for static shots, or if you want to show of a cool paint job, car, or body modification such as a widebody or big wing.

Setting it to 25 - This starts to provide a sense of speed. So LIGHT streaking backgrounds, and the car looks as if it's moving and the rims start to show some motion as well.

Setting it to 50 - A lot of online guides and YouTubers recommended a shutter speed of around 50-60 (In Forza) to keep the image feeling real. This is going to give you a high sense of speed, streak backgrounds more heavily along with moving wheels but SHOULD still keep your Car (Focused Object) sharp and clean.

Setting it to 100 - MAX Motion Blur. This is going to provide the "Warp" effect and turn the background completely into streaks. This CAN be used for High Speed or even Drift shots, but it can very easily ruin the image or make it feel fake. You also start to lose detail on lower parts of the car.

Play with it, every shot and scene is different. Some people prefer a fine tuned shutter speed and won't go over or under a certain number. The most important thing imo is that you enjoy your pictures and taking them (even in game). It shouldn't feel like a chore where you're trying to dial it in so much it feels like work rather than fun. Find out what YOU like and go from there.
